Environmental Scientist & Researcher

Jamie SilvaJamie Silva is an environmental scientist with the Department of Water Resources, currently working on a research study focusing on the ability of native plants to resist the reinvasion of invasive plant species. This work will help with tidal wetland restoration in the San Francisco Bay Delta Estuary.

Jamie has a background in marine biology and has also worked with the National Marine Fisheries Service. From the ocean to the rivers, his focus has evolved into restoration work focusing on endangered species, such as Chinook Salmon and Delta Smelt.

Jamie is also a dedicated advocate of promoting diversity in science. Of his advocacy work, Jamie states, “I’m proud to be a gay Asian scientist doing my part to conserve our natural environment and privileged to promote diversity within STEM.”
