Westside Queer Resource Center: Pride Block Party

• Alongside the Hillsboro Downtown Partnership, the Westside Queer Resource Center will be hosting a free Pride Block Party. The Pride Block Party will be held outdoors in the The Downtown Hive’s parking lot with craft booths, a drag performance by Lady Berri Matthews, film screenings indoors by Tauraro, face painting by Mystique’s Fancy Faces, community resources, kids activities, and more.

Tauraro Artist in Residency and Film Festival (Star Fest) aims to elevate Black Indigenous and greater global Indigenous trans, queer and greater 2sLGBTQIA+ creatives through the medium of film.

Oregon LGBTQIA+ History

• In 2016 Kate Brown becomes the first openly LGBTQIA+ governor in the country.  

• Same sex marriage was legalized in the state on May 19, 2014.  

• Crowned by Guinness World Records as the “World’s Oldest Working Drag Queen”, Darcelle XV lived in Portland, OR operating the successful Darcelle XV & Company for over 50 years.  

• Oregon’s first Pride Celebration was an indoor Portland event in 1971.  

• When he was elected Portland Mayor in 2008, Sam Adams became the first openly gay mayor of one of the country’s 30 largest cities.  

• When she was selected to become Oregon’s House Speaker for the 2013 legislative session, Representative Tina Kotek became the nation’s first openly lesbian leader of a state legislative chamber. Tina Kotek is currently serving as Oregon’s second openly LGBTQIA+ governor.
