Shelter Rental Rules

1. Renters must observe all park and shelter rules and return the premises to pre-event condition. 

2. A $50 cleaning fee will be assessed if additional staff time is required to clean-up after a rental.

3. Decorations must be freestanding – no staples, tacks, tape, or nails are allowed to attach tablecloths, signs, or other decorations to picnic tables, shelters, or trees. 

4. Some shelters and picnic areas contain barbecues for your use. Please bring your own charcoal and extinguish the coals prior to leaving the rented space. You can bring your own barbeque, but it must be propane. Please use a protective, absorbent surface under barbecues.

5. Fires are prohibited in parks except in barbecue stands, pits, or fireplaces provided by the City. 

6. All shelters have 120-volt electrical outlets except Bicentennial Park, Hidden Creek Park West, and Shute Park. 

7. There is no reserved parking; parking is first come, first served.

8. Pets must be on a leash at all times and waste must be cleaned up by the owner.

The following are prohibited:

• Driving or unloading supplies on trails, service roads, or grassed areas at any picnic location
• Motorized vehicles except outside of parks lots and designated parking spaces
• Confetti, glitter, chalk, water balloons, or paint of any type
• Serving and consumption of alcohol 
• Use of tobacco products including vaping 
• Bounce Houses and inflatables
• Food trucks & onsite catering
• Vending activities
• Fires outside of designated areas
• Gathering firewood
• Amplified sound or music
• Power strips – single plug extension cords only
• All fireworks including smoke powder cannons, confetti poppers, and exploding balls
• No staking into the ground

• Cancellations must be made at least four business days in advance to receive a full refund.
• Cancellations made within three business days or less will be refunded 50% of the fee.
• Business days are considered Monday – Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. City of Hillsboro facilities are closed on federal holidays.
• For weekend rentals, a cancellation must be processed by 5 pm on the previous Tuesday. 

A Parks & Recreation facility use permit for Special Events is required for:

• Amplified sound or live music
• Events in a park location not normally used for special events
• Groups/events of 50 or more in an unreserved area
• To be held when parks are normally closed
• Open to the public with possible ticketed admission and/or donations
• Alcoholic beverages
• Fireworks
• Open flame like a candlelight vigil
• Non-motorized vehicles in prohibited areas
• Vending activities (food and/or sales)

Film Use Permit 

Casual, amateur photographers, tourists, credentialed members of the media, or other members of the public who do not use vehicles or equipment or assert exclusive use of City property are not required to submit a Film Use Permit Form.

Productions that require exclusive use of a public space, specialized equipment, and other elements of that nature require a Film Use Permit.

Organizers of cultural festivals and celebrations that are held in Hillsboro, Oregon and open to the public may apply for the use of loaned equipment, fee waiver for use of a City park, plaza, or the Walters Cultural Arts Center, and financial support.
