Registration

Registration can be completed online or by phone 503-681-6127 during registration periods.

Please contact us prior to registration if unsure of level placement. See below for level descriptions.
First time participants who have never registered with Hillsboro Parks & Recreation will need to set up an account over the phone prior to registration.

Parent/Child Swim Lessons

Angelfish: Learn about the aquatic environment through skill developing songs and games.

Ages 6 months to 3 years
Instructor to participant ratio is 1:10.
A parent or guardian 16 years or older must accompany the child in the water.

Catfish 1: Learn basic aquatic skills. Start developing positive attitudes and safe practices around the water.

Ages 2 ½ to 5 years
Instructor to participant ratio is 1:7.
A parent or guardian 16 years or older must accompany the child in the water.

Preschool Swim Lessons: Ages 3 to 5 Years

Catfish 2:	Front and back skills with assistance. Prerequisites: comfortable submerging their head and opening their eyes under water.
Catfish 3:	Learn to independently perform front and back floating and gliding skills. Prerequisites: comfortable floating on their front and back for at least three seconds with assistance.
Catfish 4:	Learn the front crawl with side breathing. Prerequisites: able to independently perform front and back floats and glides.
Catfish 5:	Refine front crawl and learn the back crawl. Prerequisites: familiar with the principles of front crawl with side breathing.

School Age Swim Lessons: Ages 6 to 15 Years

Electric Eel:	Introductory course. Basic water safety and swimming. skills. No prerequisites required.
Frog:	Learn front crawl with side breathing. Prerequisites: display comfort in submerging and opening eyes underwater, front and back floats and glides.
Goldfish:	Refine front crawl, learn the principles of back crawl. Prerequisites: familiar with front crawl with side breathing.
Hammerhead:	Learn dolphin, breaststroke, and scissor kicks, and elementary backstroke. Prerequisites: front crawl with side breathing and back crawl.
Jellyfish:	Extend front crawl endurance to a full length of the pool (25 meters) and further develop diving skills. Prerequisites: able to swim 15 meters of front crawl with side breathing and comfortable in deep water.
Lobster:	Learn breaststroke, further develop front and back crawl, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. Prerequisites: able to swim front crawl with side breathing for 25 meters.
Manatee:	Learn butterfly, refine breaststroke. Prerequisites: breaststroke and able to swim front and back crawl for at least 25 meters.
Neon:	Refine all six strokes, introduction to competitive swimming concepts. Prerequisites: comfortable swimming continuously for five minutes.

Adaptive Aquatics Swim Lessons: Ages 3 to Adult

Available to students 3 years of age and older with any physical, emotional, behavioral, learning disability, or impairment. The lessons provide one-on-one instruction with a focus on fundamental water safety and swimming skills. Prior to the first day of class, an intake form must be filled out. Intake forms are available at SHARC or online and help our instructors prepare for a successful session.

Swim Fundamentals: Ages 11 to Adult

Private Swim Lessons: Ages 3 to Adult

Choose from Private (1:1), Semi-private (1:2), or Private Group (1:3).

Private Swim Lesson sessions are offered concurrently with group swim lesson levels. To convert a Private Swim Lesson (1:1) to Semi-private (1:2) or Private Group (1:3), please register one participant in an available Private Swim Lesson and contact the program supervisor at Ryan.Myers@Hillsboro-Oregon.gov. When converting a class, registrant must provide name and contact information of all participants.

Homeschool Swim Lessons: Ages 6 to 17 Years

Swim Lesson Procedures

Parents/spectators are required to remain in the designated spectator areas throughout the duration of each lesson.
All Swim Lesson participants are required to take a rinsing shower before entering the water.
All Swim Lesson participants are asked to wait to enter the pool until their lesson begins or their instructor comes to get them.
Swim Lesson participants wishing to participate in Preschool Swim before and/or after their swim lesson must either have a current SHARC membership or pay the single visit admission. Participants age seven years and under must be accompanied by an adult in the water, except during swim lessons.
Sorry, we are unable to accommodate any make-up lessons for missed days.
Please do your best to get your child to use the restroom prior to their lesson.
You are encouraged to talk openly with your child's instructor, before or after class, about their progress in lessons.
There are no refunds, credits or returns once lessons begin.
