Winter Area (Gravel)

• The all-weather Winter Area is open year-round. This area is lit after dark until close. Water is available.

Main & Mixed Dog Area (Grass)

• During the open season, the Main & Mixed Dog Area is closed for maintenance every Monday and Thursday from dawn until 12 pm.

Small Dog Area (Grass)

• During the open season, the Small Dog Area is closed for maintenance every Monday and Thursday from dawn until 12 pm. Starting spring 2025, the Small Dog Area will be limited to dogs 30 pounds and under. 

Seasonal Closure Notes

• The Main & Mixed Dog Area and Small & Timid Dog Area at Hondo Dog Park will be closed for the season each year starting October 1 to protect the integrity of the grass and soil. These areas will reopen in the late spring. The gravel Winter Area is open year-round.


• On the rare occasion that weather allows and the grass areas are considered safe for winter use, a green flag will be placed on site to indicate they are open.


• Water is turned off seasonally at the Main & Mixed Dog Area and Small & Timid Dog Area to prevent frozen pipes.


• For additional winter off-leash areas, visit Cornell Creek Dog Park on Century Blvd one block south of Cornell.

Dogs Must:

• Display identification tags showing proof of current license and rabies vaccination.
• Demonstrate appropriate social interaction; dogs displaying aggressive behavior toward people or other dogs must be leashed and removed from the area immediately.

Handlers Must:

• Pick up and dispose of your dog's waste.
• Carry a leash for each dog in your care and leash your dog when outside the off-leash area.
• Closely supervise young children. Children under 12 must be supervised by an adult.
• Accept legal responsibility for any damage or injury caused by your dog. City of Hillsboro and Washington County are not responsible for any damages or injuries.
• Remain in the off-leash area to supervise your dog, keeping him within view and under verbal control at all times.
• Remove pinch, choke, and spiked collars when playing off-leash to prevent injury.
• Do not bring a dog in heat to the off-leash area (a citable offense).
• Do not bring a puppy without a complete cycle of vaccinations to the off-leash area.
• Never leave your dog unattended. Abandoned dogs will be impounded.
• No food (including dog treats) or alcohol inside the area.
• Comply with all other park rules.
• Use of all tobacco products and vaping is prohibited on Parks & Recreation property.

• Thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Hillsboro Dog Association and the support of many dog owners and enthusiasts in the community, Hondo Dog Park now has evening lighting, and the winter area will be open until 9 pm daily (instead of dusk).
