K-9 Unit

Our K-9 Unit consists of dogs and trained officer handlers who engage in tracking and narcotics detection. Before hitting the road, each canine and handler team must complete a minimum of 10 weeks of basic training and meet the Oregon Police Canine Association Standards. Each team trains weekly to maintain their skills.

Since 1978, the program has been instrumental in demonstrating the value of K-9 officers in locating suspects, articles, and missing persons. We have assisted many other agencies in starting and maintaining their K-9 programs and are often consulted as a problem-solving resource.

In addition to solving crime, our K-9 teams engage in outreach at many community events, and most of dogs are widely known by name when working in the community.

We Love HPD and the names of K-9s Jessie, Blazer, Rockett and Ace are drawn on a neighborhood sidewalk

Meet our K-9s

Hillsboro Police K-9s are trained to track human scent, recover evidence, and protect their officer handler.
