In conjunction with the Public Works Department, the Unit analyzes traffic crash data to develop strategies and enforcement techniques. To ensure roadways are safe, we use selective traffic enforcement and focus strategically on high crash roadways.

Anyone involved in a collision can call 911 and ask for an officer to respond to the collision scene.  

If no one is injured as a result of the collision, a police report is not required. Parties involved can exchange driver license information, vehicle registration, and insurance details. 

Required Oregon Traffic and Accident Reporting

You must file an Oregon Traffic Accident and Insurance Report with Oregon Driver and Motor Vehicle Services (DMV) within 72 hours if:

• Damage to any vehicle or property is over $2,500, even if your vehicle was the only one in the crash
• Any vehicle is towed from the scene
• Injury or death resulted from the accident

The DMV will suspend your license if you don't file a required report. Please note that a police report does not count as filing a Traffic Accident and Insurance Report with the DMV.

If you were in an accident and the damages were less than $2,500, you can report it to the DMV if the other party doesn't have insurance. Be sure to clearly note on the accident report that it doesn't meet mandatory reporting criteria.

Our Parking Compliance Team is responsible for ensuring the City's parking codes are adhered to through education and enforcement. Hillsboro Municipal Code Section 8.12.030 General Parking Prohibitions and Oregon Vehicle Code regulate on-street parking.

Downtown Parking

Two-hour parking downtown helps keep vehicles on the move, offering parking to a multitude of people for a multitude of different reasons. 

• “Same block face” means that after your time limit is up, you may not park on the same block for the remainder of the day.
• People who live on streets with two-hour parking may request a permit to be exempted from the time limit.
  • To request a permit, bring your vehicle registration and driver's license or picture identification to the Hillsboro Police Department.
  • The vehicle registration must match the address for which you are requesting the permit.
