Our Youth Services Detectives work with students, parents, teachers and administrators to facilitate safe school environments that foster and support our youth.

Detective Dow Tobindow 2

Schools:

 “Serving as a School Resource Officer allows me the opportunity to be proactive in guiding students toward positive decisions, rather than reacting to the consequences of poor choices they might have made in the future.”

Fun facts about Dow: He is a die-hard football fan. His first job was driving tugboats in the Caribbean.


Detective Tracy HinkelmanTRACY 1

“I'd like parents to know that our number one job in the schools is to keep kids safe and to make sure their kids have equal opportunity to spend that time in the classroom to get the education that they all need.” 

Fun fact about Tracy: She once worked as a wildland firefighter.


Detective Robbie Carriganrobby 2

“I wanted to become an SRO because I was a high school rugby coach and being able to be there for the kids and mentoring the kids is just a feeling you can't replace.” 

Fun facts about Robbie: He played and coached Rugby, and he really enjoys board and card games.

Fun fact about Chris: In 2024, he and his family walked 378 miles on The Camino de Santiago in 27 days.

“If (students) ever are in some sort of crisis or some sort of issue, they can reach out to me when it might not be as negative, when talking to a stranger because they already have that relationship with me.” 

Fun facts about Edgar: He is a huge fan of soccer, and a huge supporter of the Portland Timbers.


Detective Dylan Hettrichdyaln 2

“The most meaningful part of this job is we get to do a lot of non-traditional police work. We get to be mentors, we get to be teachers, we get to be coaches, we get to work with our administrators, we get to work with our families.

 A big part of my role is educating our students and that can be on a variety of topics and a variety of level of kids from kindergarteners all the way up to our seniors in high school.”  

Fun facts about Dylan: He loves watching cooking shows and honing his culinary skills.

“Being able to connect with the kids and hopefully change the trajectory of their life and what they're doing. It's fun to see them back in the community after you've been involved in their life and see them successful in doing it.”

Fun facts about Megan: She has a Great Dane named Gordo and he weighs more than she does!
