About
The City of Hillsboro is repairing and replacing sanitary sewer lines that were built between 1911 and 1936. Many of these pipes are concrete and have a useful life of 50-75 years. These repairs will keep groundwater and stormwater out of the sanitary sewer system and reduce maintenance costs. The project also increases capacity for the whole system by reducing the amount of stormwater and groundwater being moved to the regional wastewater treatment facility.
Proposed Improvements
The project is designed to repair and replace aging sanitary lines to keep groundwater and stormwater out. This will improve maintenance, cleaning efforts, and keep the system healthy.
Proposed improvements include:
- Replace existing sanitary sewer system by pipe bursting approximately 16,260 linear feet of 6” to 22” diameter sanitary sewer and replacing with HDPE pipe. Piper busting method is when a new line is pulled through the old one. The process breaks the old line and pushes it out into the surrounding soil, leaving the new on in its place.
- Replace or reconstruction of approximately 90 manholes, and all associated restoration work. This work includes repairing where the pipe connects to the manhole and the bottom where the wastewater flows through.
