Leaf Collection and Drop-Off Program

2025 Street Tree Leaf Collection Update

  • The 2025 Street Tree Leaf Collection is completed.

Street Tree Leaf Collection Program

City of Hillsboro residents can easily recycle fall leaves from street trees thanks to the Street Tree Leaf Collection and Drop-off Programs offered by the Public Works Department.

These longstanding programs serve to:

  • Keep more than 240 miles of City streets and the Stormwater System clean and reliable
  • Reduce flooding caused by street tree leaves clogging catch basins
  • Prevent debris from flowing downstream into stormwater management facilities and local waterways

Leaf Map 2025 Update to Zones

The street tree leaf collection season runs annually from November through January. A map and schedule will be included as an insert in the City of Hillsboro utility bill in October.

In 2025, the City of Hillsboro moved from ten districts for leaf pickup to four zones. The zone approach is designed to simplify the leaf pick up process by combining multiple districts into a single zone.

Find your leaf zone! Check out the new interactive map to know your zone and schedule.

  • Zone A (combines districts 1 and 2)
  • Zone B (combines districts 5, 6, and 8)
  • Zone C (combines districts 7A, 7B, and 9)
  • Zone D (combines districts 3, 4, and10)

Leaves are picked up once in November and again in December.

Guidelines

To participate in the street tree leaf collection program:

  • Place leaves in the street no earlier than one week before each of the two scheduled pickup dates for your area.
  • Pile leaves – from street trees only – in a row on your street a minimum of 18 inches away from the curb.
  • Keep leaf rows less than three feet high.
  • Do not block bike lanes, sidewalks, pathways, mailboxes, driveways, or intersections with leaf piles.
  • Loose leaves are preferred instead of bagged. If bags are necessary, please use biodegradable paper bags. Plastic bags will not be accepted.
  • Place leaves separate from garbage cans and yard debris bins.
  • Remove any obstructions, including basketball hoops and parked cars, to allow for the leaf pickup equipment to collect leaves.
  • Crews will not pick up yard debris, tree branches, grass clippings, construction materials, or garbage during leaf pick-up operations.

Street Tree Leaf Drop-Off Events

The City is hosting two street tree leaf drop off events in 2025.
